| Latest News | July 2010: CSYP members Emma Lecavalier and Maria Ramirez recently participated in the international conference, "Being The Change: Building a Culture of Peace" held at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The conference explored peace education, women's activism, and contemporary global disarmament initiatives. Keynote speakers included Alyn Ware, and two senior Pugwash members, Sandra Butcher and Erika Simpson. There was also a fieldtrip to the village of Pugwash - where it all began!

Please head to seriouslytimetostop.com for all the information. | | Jan 2010: Canadian Student/Young Pugwash held a one-day workshop in Ottawa, Ontario on Monday January 25, 2010. The workshop was part of a two-day high-level conference titled "Practical Steps to Zero Nuclear Weapons", organized by a number of national organizations, including the Canadian Pugwash Group.
The student workshop explored a wide range of issues relating the nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament. CSYP delegates hosted a range of speakers including Dr. Michael Dworkind of Physicians for Global Survival, Alyn Ware (recent winner of the Right Livelihood Award), and Dr. Randy Rydell of the UN. The venerable U.S. journalist I.F. Stone once wrote that ““The only kinds of fights worth fighting are those you are going to lose, because somebody has to fight them and lose and lose and lose until someday, somebody who believes as you do wins.” Such has clearly been the case for decades as the global nuclear abolition movement lost and lost and lost. -- " Mutually Assured Security in a Nuclear-Free World", By Cameron Harrington, Toronto (Canada) | Nov 2009: CSYP has released Volume Two [pdf] of its annual essay publication. Edited by Prof. Mike Wallace, a Senior Canadian Pugwash Member, and Steacy Henry, former Chair of CSYP, this volume contains four essays collected from CSYP members across Canada. The essays deal with a wide range of pressing security issues facing Canada and the world. The focuses range from American nuclear posture, water security, nuclear energy and climate change, and Iranian nuclear ambitions. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for a new call for essays in preparation for Volume 3, to be released in 2010!
